Lee County has been involved in the event since its inception and it has grown every year. “The event itself is incredible; the amount of smiles some of these surfers get when they enter the water is life-changing,” Mike Hammond, 26% coordinator for Lee County Parks and Recreation, said in a prepared statement. Even though many may not consider the beach an ideal surfing destination, Surfers for Autism also offers paddling events when the waves don't meet the surfing standards.
